Our W-course is aimed at prospective students who wish to study economics or social sciences in Germany, but whose school-leaving certificate does not meet the necessary requirements or is not recognised. After successfully completing the course, you will be able to study programmes such as Economics, Business Informatics, or Social Sciences at a German university or university of applied sciences.
The lessons cover German, Maths, Economics and Accounting, Social studies, Computer Science and English. You will receive comprehensive preparation for the academic demands of your future degree programme.
Our modern seminar rooms offer you a pleasant and supportive learning atmosphere. To participate, you will need a recognized German language certificate at B1 level and a school-leaving qualification from your home country that is comparable to the German Abitur.

The W-course at the International Study Centre Thuringia is aimed at international applicants who wish to study a business or social science subject at a German college or university.
Our aim: To prepare you optimally for the internal assessment test (FSP) - your ticket to study in Germany.

What else do I need to know about the W-course?
Course duration: 1-2 Semester
Note: Semesters at the study center correspond to the length of university semesters, but do not take place at the same time.

Grades: Grades are awarded in each subject; you can only advance to the second semester and be admitted to the FSP if you have the required grades.

What does a W-course involve?
If you attend a W-course, you will be taught German, Mathematics, Computer Science, English, Economics / Accounting, and Social Studies. In the final examination, you will sit for exams in German, Mathematics, and Economics. The course lasts two semesters (one year). Once you have successfully completed it, you can study at any German university or university of applied sciences.
What is a W-course?
Foreign applicants who wish to study Business Administration, Economics, International Business Studies, or another related subject in Germany—and whose school-leaving certificate is not or only partially recognised—must attend a W-course. This course specifically prepares students for academic studies in Germany.
What are the advantages of a W-course in Jena?
The final examination for the W-course—the so-called assessment exam—is conducted internally. This means it is not administered by external examiners; instead, the teachers who have guided the students over the two semesters carry out the assessment. Additional advantages include student status and access to the semester transport ticket.
